Biotech Heights is pleased to welcome Re:meat as a new member of our innovation platform

Earlier this year, Re:meat successfully closed an oversubscribed €1 million funding round to support the establishment of its pilot Re:meatery in Lund. Their decision to join Biotech Heights as a member represents a significant milestone in moving that vision forward.

“Collaboration is essential to accelerate the development of fermentation and bring bioprocess technologies into new industries,” says Emma Nordell, Manager at Biotech Heights. “Re:meat’s membership will contribute to strengthening partnerships between academia, start-ups and industry players within biosolutions.”

Re:meat’s patented core technology is designed to radically reduce the cost of hardware for alternative food production, precision fermentation, biotechnology, and cultivated meat. By developing food-grade equipment that is significantly more affordable than conventional pharmaceutical-grade systems, the company is making large-scale production feasible for industries with tighter margins.

“We recognised early on that the industry needs equipment at a fraction of today’s costs to enable the scaling and industrialisation of alternative food production,” explains Marten Schmidt, CTO at Re:meat. “Drawing on our years of experience in the brewing industry, combined with our R&D expertise in cell biology, we have developed a food-grade bioreactor that meets the high standards required for cultivating sensitive mammalian cells. Importantly, our Re:meatery also supports yeast- and bacteria-based processes such as precision fermentation, so the potential extends well beyond cultivated meat. Biotech Heights provides the perfect environment to bridge academia and commercialisation through its infrastructure and scientific expertise.”

The pilot Re:meatery will be installed at the Lund University Prepilot Plant by the end of 2025 and validated together with partners and clients in spring 2026.

About Re:meat: Re:meat is on a mission to redefine how meat end up on our plates, by enabling tech for food businesses to cultivate sustainable and affordable meat for the many. The technology has the potential to fundamentally improve resilience and chances of combating climate change.
